Please choose a manufacturer from above - or search for ALL
ropes.
The rope is the most important element in the safety chain. Many diverse
demands have to be fulfilled by the rope and choices have to be made based
on your requirements. Single or Double? Single ropes
(10mm-11mm) are used for sports climbing, top-roping and traditional climbing
where pitches follow a relatively straight line and gear placements will
not cause unnecessary rope drag. Choose a 10mm rope if weight is an issue
or a 10.5mm or 11mm for longevity and a higher fall rating. Double ropes
(8.1mm-9mm) should be used in pairs and are essential for long, traditionally
protected routes where they can be clipped independently to avoid rope
drag. Two ropes offer maximum safety and the advantage of being able to
fix long abseils. 50m or 60m? For most traditional routes
a 50m rope will suffice. For sports climbing a 60m rope has the advantage
of allowing lowering off pitches in excess of 25m. Dry Treatment?
Essential if you use your rope for winter climbing.
